Summer Handwriting Program for JK Studetns (3-4 Year Old)
The Possibilities Clinic is excited to offer a 6-week summer handwriting group for JK students, based off the Handwriting Without Tears ® Get Set For School® (Pre-K Readiness and Writing) curriculum. “This program will use music, movement, and multisensory manipulatives to teach all the core readiness skills including crayon and pencil grip, letter recognition and formation, body awareness, and posture.” (from the Get Set for School program and teacher’s guide). Your child will learn to build letters using visual cues and illustrations, tactile, consistent language, and music and movement. This program encourages parent involvement to build parental capacity for continuing learning activities at home. One parent is required to join in the hour long session with the student, and some sessions will have take-home components to encourage continued practice and generalization of the skills learned during the session. Parent participation is mandatory for the 6 sessions. Program objectives Social-Emotional skills: Learn to listen to oral directions to attend to a simple task Imitate body movements Listen to and repeat songs and finger plays Pass, share, play beside others Wait and engage in turn taking Pre-writing and Readiness skills: Decide on handedness and use same hand consistently to hold crayons Develop...
