At Possibilities, we believe that supporting neurodiverse learners takes collaboration between families, schools, and community professionals. Our School Spotlight series highlights private schools that offer inclusive learning environments, specialized programs, and individualized supports designed to meet a range of developmental and learning needs. These features help parents explore private school education options and connect with schools that align with their child’s strengths and support needs.

An exceptional, personalized school for students with Autism and other neurodevelopmental differences — where education and therapy work hand in hand. You belong.

Where is Monarch Academy located?

Toronto — Yonge Street, North York

New classrooms opening in Mississauga (401 & Hurontario) and Waterloo in September 2026–2027.

Co-ed day school  •  Kindergarten to Grade 8  •  academy@monarchhouse.ca

What are the class sizes and staffing ratios?

  • Kindergarten: up to 10 students with a 1:2 or 1:3 specialist-to-student ratio
  • Primary/Elementary: up to 8 students with a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio
  • Each class is led by an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) plus 1–2 support staff

Part-time enrolment is available — students can attend Monarch Academy a few days a week alongside their community school.

How does Monarch Academy support neurodiverse students?

Monarch Academy is rooted in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and offers a unique marriage of education and therapeutic support. An Ontario Certified Teacher and a Behaviour Analyst work side by side, addressing academics, occupational therapy needs, and daily living skills as one integrated program.

  • Supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder — Level 1, 2, and 3
  • ABA-based teaching embedded across all areas of learning
  • Small group instruction tailored to each learner’s profile
  • SLP and OT consultation integrated into the team, meeting with students multiple times per month
  • Daily communication with families — parents are active partners in goal-setting
  • All student goals are aligned with home goals for consistency across environments
  • Parents are welcome to observe the classroom in action at any time
  • Half-day trial days offered to all prospective students

What specialized literacy, numeracy, and communication programs are offered?

  • Direct Instruction (DI) Program — used for both literacy and math
  • AIM Program — supporting communication and language goals

All programming is evidence-based and adapted to each student’s individual treatment plan.

What in-house clinical support is available?

Monarch Academy’s multidisciplinary team is built directly into the school model — not added on as extras. Support includes:

  • Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs)
  • Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs)
  • Occupational Therapists (OTs)
  • Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs)

SLP and OT consultation is included as part of the core team and ongoing treatment planning — not billed separately.

Does Monarch Academy create Individual Education Plans?

Monarch Academy develops individualized treatment plans for every student. These are more comprehensive

than a standard IEP and target the full range of each child’s development:

• Learning — math, reading, and writing
• Language and communication
• Gross and fine motor skills
• Social skills
• Safety skills
• Behaviour goals

Plans are developed collaboratively with families and reviewed regularly to reflect each child’s evolving progress.

What opportunities exist beyond academics?

  • Friday afternoon community engagement outings for elementary students — applying real-world skills in the community
  • Music twice a week
  • Outings to local parks a couple of times per week
  • Two dedicated sensory rooms available throughout the day
  • March Break and summer camps for continuity of learning and support

How does Monarch Academy build community?

Community is built through meaningful involvement — for both students and their families. The school hosts holiday parties, seasonal events, and family activities throughout the year. Camps during March Break and summer help maintain consistency and connection outside of the regular school calendar.

Because class sizes are small, daily communication between school and family is the norm — not the exception.

What makes Monarch Academy unique?

Monarch Academy is the only school in its region that fully integrates education with clinical therapeutic support under one roof. The multidisciplinary team — including BCBAs, OTs, SLPs, OCTs, and parents — collaborates daily to support each child’s academic, social, emotional, and language development.

  • Students have access to both 1:1 and group support within the same school day
  • OAP (Ontario Autism Program) funding can be applied toward tuition costs
  • Monarch Academy is connected to Monarch House — a clinic offering assessments and therapeutic support for children and families in 1:1 and group settings

How does the admissions process work?

  • Reach out to schedule a consultation
  • Half-day trial day for prospective students
