Possibilities School Match Service
If you’ve decided to pursue a private education for your child, you probably have many questions. Which school will provide the best learning experience—especially if there are gaps in achievement and your child is struggling? Which one will provide the best social experience with clubs, teams, and friendships? And which one will instill confidence and a sense of belonging? These are big questions, and they aren’t easily answered.
The move to private education is a costly endeavor. There is the financial cost of tuition, and maybe for out-of-town housing. And there are costs for your child, too. Any school you choose sets an important course—for friendships, for supports that address challenges, and for opportunities that boost strengths. And that choice lasts years, not semesters.
If you find yourself feeling alone as you consider schools and curious about options, we can help.
At Possibilities we offer a unique School Match service to help support your decision-making and your child’s success. This program is available for students up to age 21. This service is delivered by our Director of Academic Services, an Ontario Certified Teacher, who has extensive experience in public and private education. She’ll help you find a match that considers learning skills and additional aspects of school life, like opportunities for social connectedness in clubs and teams, leadership, and athletic participation.
Here are some questions we are asked about our School Match program, along with our answers.
This service will support you in your journey to find a school that best fits your child’s needs. There are 4 components to this service.
- Intake Interview with our Director of Academic Services: In an initial 50-minute Intake Interview, our Director of Academic Services who is also the Clinics’ Director of Academic Services, will meet with you to discuss your child’s strengths and needs, and what you are looking for in a private school. Our Director of Academic Services will ask you for a list of the top 3 schools you are considering and for relevant documents that are pertinent to school success.
- Document Review: Documents you provide will be reviewed by our Director of Academic Services These documents typically include report cards, Psychoeducational Assessments, and any other information you feel might be relevant for learning to help you make an informed decision.
- School Outreach: Next, with your consent, our Director of Academic Services will reach out to the 3 schools you are considering for your child. Based on your requests and concerns, and the document review, our Director of Academic Services will ask relevant questions of each school in a 50-minute interview. Questions will vary depending on your needs. For example, our Director of Academic Services might explore whether scientifically supported programs for dyslexia are available, and opportunities for your child to participate on sports teams or clubs.
- Review of School Information: Once information from all the schools is collected, our Director of Academic Services will consider school offerings and think about how specific school programs and opportunities could best address your child’s needs while supporting strengths.
- Match Meeting with our Director of Academic Services: Next you’ll meet with our Director of Academic Services for a 50-minute Match Meeting. Our Director of Academic Services will discuss her recommendations with you, keeping in mind how specific school offerings can address your child’s needs and strengths. In the end, the decision of which school is best suited for your child resides with you.
