We Need to Talk about Dyslexia: Myths, Science, and Interventions that Work
If you know about Learning Disabilities, you probably know about dyslexia. But how much do you really know about the science of this most common learning difference among students who struggle at school? In this presentation, Dr. Brenda Miles, a Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychologist, and Dr. Doron Almagor, a Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist, will discuss the brain, the science of Reading Disorders, and the dangerous myths about Dyslexia that physicians, educators, policymakers, and parents need to reject immediately to start supporting students who are losing time and neuroplasticity in programs that aren’t working. Dr. Miles will discuss evidence-based reading interventions you need to know about. Dr. Almagor will discuss ADHD, a condition that often exists with Dyslexia and that comes with its own myths that are unhelpful and potentially harmful. Reading gains happen when integrated, scientifically-supported treatments address all concerns effectively. If you’re ready to be surprised by science, and inspired to pivot to treatments that can boost focus and change brain circuits for reading, we’ll see you there—because we really do need to talk about Dyslexia and how you can help your child.
