Crystal Schimmens is a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience providing care to patients across the lifespan. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science at Queen’s University in 2006 and went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Ottawa in 2010.
Crystal has spent her career working in primary care, where she has developed a strong interest in mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions. Her clinical work includes comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and ongoing treatment, with a focus on thoughtful, individualized care. She collaborates closely with patients to develop tailored treatment plans and support medication management.
Alongside her clinical work, Crystal has been involved in the development of innovative and accessible mental health services. This includes designing community-based and virtual support programs aimed at improving access to care and providing ongoing support for individuals experiencing a range of emotional and mental health concerns. This reflects her commitment to meeting patients where they are and reducing barriers to care.
Crystal approaches her work with empathy, compassion, and respect for each individual’s lived experience. She is committed to providing evidence-based care in a supportive and collaborative manner, helping patients feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their care. Her goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals feel supported in making informed decisions about their health and well-being.
