If “happiness is a warm puppy,” as Peanuts’ cartoon creator Charles M. Schulz once wrote, then we’ve got some new happiness to share! Meet Eddie, a black poodle pup with an inquisitive mind, youthful spirit, and boundless joy. Eddie has arrived at Possibilities in time to help us celebrate our new location at 1910 Yonge Street in Toronto. She is also our newest Possibilities Team Member, months after the passing of Newton, our beloved labradoodle who spent most of his life helping clients of all ages.
Eddie was born on May 10, 2024. She has already made a lasting impression on our team and the people and families we serve. Named after the prolific inventor Thomas Edison, Eddie carries with her a spark of curiosity at every turn. She embodies energy in its purest form, darting up stairs, leaping with enthusiasm, and running with abandon—only to fall into the kind of deep and undisturbed sleep she needs to fully recharge after a busy day. Eddie teaches us the necessity of balance: the energy we expend must always be met with time to recover.
Between bouts of energy, Eddie doesn’t rush through life. Instead, she pauses, often sitting in quiet contemplation. She watches planes flying overhead and cars driving by. She sniffs the subtle scents of flowers, grass, soil, and trees, always seeking a reason to linger. She finds wonder and beauty in the ordinary. Perhaps this is Eddie’s greatest lesson so far: the value of mindfulness, of paying attention to moments that are easily missed.
Eddie’s journey towards becoming a Certified Therapy Dog is unfolding. Already, we see the makings of a future filled with connection and healing. Eddie is determined, yet gentle. Her focus is impressive. She notices changes—even subtle ones. She is happy in the presence of people. She embraces the unknown with grace and patience. Undoubtedly, her openness to wonders all around will deepen as her therapy training continues, making her a steadfast presence for those who need her most.
Of course, Eddie’s future holds many delightful unknowns. How big will she grow? How many words will she come to understand? Where will she lead us? And perhaps most whimsically, what color will she become? Will her sleek black fur transform into a striking blue-gray? While not quite the blue of our Possibilities logo, this potential change is a fitting reminder of our clinic’s guiding philosophy—change is not only possible; it’s inevitable. When we dare to embrace our greatest possibilities, all of us are always becoming.
