Dr. Lester Liao


Dr. Lester Liao is a Paediatrician who trained at the Stollery Children’s Hospital at the University of Alberta and the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto. He has a special interest in the intersection between the humanities, spirituality, and medicine and has lectured on the topic internationally. As a Taiwanese-Canadian, he also has a keen interest in the role culture plays in shaping our conceptions of childhood and human flourishing. Currently he serves as the Canadian Liaison of the International Doctor as a Humanist Association and has written for popular outlets like the Globe and Mail, CBC, National Post, and Toronto Star. Dr. Liao teaches at the University of Toronto and serves as Director of Common Pursuits, an organization devoted to strengthening the bonds of community by valuing what is simple, local, and common to all. Dr. Liao’s combined interests—extensive in breadth and depth—have led him to his current work in paediatric mental health, and continue to shape his holistic approach to caring for children.
